They must think we’re idiots.

Fri Apr 3, 2009, 8:49 AM
Yes, I know, another political post. At least I’m posting something.

Anyway, I don’t know if any of you saw this, but something touted a few days back was a series of pledges obtained via email and door-to-door that voiced support for the 2009 spending bill. The emails were gathered using the massive list created during his election campaign. They numbered somewhere in the tens of millions. The door-to-door campaign was throughout the 50 United States. Now, the DNC, CNN, and others reported a total of 642,000 pledges were produced.

At first glance, that may seem like a lot. But, the email list has over 13 million addresses on it, 642k is roughly 4%, if we don’t count the door-to-door. The United States population is estimated to be over 306,000,000.

Here is where it gets better, 640000 is not the correct number. The email list resulted in 114,000 individual pledges. The door-to-door returned another 100,000 signatures. So, how did they come up with the 642,000 figure?

Photocopies.

Three copies were made to provide every signer's senators and representative a copy.

"This effort was designed to give our supporters the tools to influence their elected officials. Of course we delivered a pledge to each of their members of Congress — 642,000 pledges. That's what we said we were delivering and that's what we did."
-DNC spokesperson Natalie Wyeth

They really think we’re idiots, putting out this inflated figure as an outright lie. I can tell you who the true idiots are; the media who ran with this front page without a shred of research. Furthermore you can really see their agenda when they don’t correct it, or bury the correction out of plain sight.

I can’t wait until the 15th…. [link]

Hey! I love you more.
Yes. And no matter what you say, I love you more.
Thankka-thankka for the fave!
Moral high ground? I have no moral qualms with you, I was just pointing out that you have moved from questioning me to criticizing very quickly. Besides pointing this out, I do not believe I have leveled any criticism in return.

Perhaps my woeful writing ability distracted you so much you missed the point of the journal. I will attempt to paraphrase; this website, while claiming to be an art website, is inundated with really, really awful work. Like a pyramid, this makes up the base and majority of deviantart. In the middle are mediocre works, which also fill a large portion of everything posted here. I have nothing against the artists, hell, I don't even know them. You don't even know me, we haven't even met, but you disagree with me based on my actions online. I have explained myself, and instead of taking it in and considering it, you have lambasted, of all things, the grammar of the statement. But I'm digressing here. I am here to criticize, and go ahead and criticize me, I don't really care. (Although I guess writing this long statement isn't the best way of saying so) I will continue to do what I came here to do, and if you have any quarrels, getting into a flame war isn't a way to discuss them. (I'm not accusing you of attempting to start one, mind you, it's just that I have had conversations like this that have quickly devolved into mindless rants about the opposings hygiene and sexuality. Let's not let our relationship become that.)
It was never my goal to stop you from being an art critique, nor was my first post on your journal an attempt to flame you. My goal, if you can call it that, is to point out that your methods are much more counter-productive then helpful. You’ll find that you can point out the flaws in others work without inciting angry replies if you remain professional. At first, your actions portrayed you to be a troll, using the guise of criticism to degrade artwork. If you goal is to actually improve Deviant art, then I have no qualms with that, only the method in how you do so. Keep it respectful and you’ll find less hateful comments on your front page, less ignored comments, and more constructive responses.
"I saw this on SOMEBODIES journal and decided I would steal it."
Do I need to point out the obvious flaw in this sentence? You emphasized it, unwittingly, yourself. You see, this sort of useless argument can be juggled back and forth almost indefinitely, so why stoop so low?
I find it funny that you're trying to take the moral high ground in this situation. It's humorously hypocritical that you would suggest that critiquing a journal would be less pointless then critiquing a random persons artwork.
I dare say you resemble those “bat-shit insane, butthurt” artist you rail on.
